We rent Hobie Wave catamarans. The Hobie Wave is a 13 foot beach cat known for a simple boomless mainsail, stable twin hull design, easy beach launching, and a roomy trampoline. It is a popular recreational Hobie for solo sailors, couples, families, and small groups.

Each Hobie Wave has a maximum capacity of four riders. The number of riders we recommend on a particular day may be lower depending on rider weight, wind strength, gusts, and water conditions.

Hobie Wave rentals are $65 per hour. Discounts are available for longer rentals. Current availability and longer rental options can be viewed through the booking calendar on this page.

We only rent Hobie Waves to guests who already have sailing experience. We do not offer sailing lessons with these rentals. At check in, our team will ask questions about your sailing background and your ability to independently operate a small sailboat or catamaran.

You should be comfortable sailing without an instructor. That means you understand basic points of sail and can independently steer with a tiller, trim the mainsail, tack, gybe, control the boat in changing wind, return to the launch area, and respond appropriately if the boat stalls, rounds into the wind, or conditions change. Simply having ridden as a passenger on a sailboat does not normally count as sufficient operating experience.

For most recreational Hobie Wave rentals, approximately 8 to 15 knots provides a good balance of speed, control, and enjoyable sailing. This is a general operating guide rather than an automatic approval range. Gusts, wind direction, storms, water conditions, group size, and sailor experience can make the same wind speed feel very different from one day to another.

A Hobie Wave can sail in light air, but very low wind can make it difficult to maintain speed, maneuver efficiently, or complete a worthwhile rental. If the wind is too light, our team may recommend waiting for conditions to improve, moving your rental to a better time, or choosing another activity.

Hobie rentals may be delayed, paused, rescheduled, or canceled when winds, gusts, storms, or water conditions become unsafe. Strong wind also changes the amount of sailing experience needed to safely control the boat. The final go or no go decision is made by our waterfront staff based on actual conditions at Navarre Beach.

Hobie rentals launch directly onto Santa Rosa Sound from Juana’s Pagodas. The sailing area is between Navarre Beach and Pensacola Beach, within the operating boundaries explained by our team before launch. Your actual range during a rental depends on wind direction, wind strength, rental length, and your ability to return to the launch area on time.

Spring and fall are often the best all around seasons for Hobie sailing on Navarre Beach, especially March through May and September through November, when comfortable temperatures and useful breezes often overlap. Summer can also provide excellent sailing, but calm periods and afternoon thunderstorms are more common. Winter sailing depends heavily on cold fronts, which can produce stronger and gustier winds.

Our goal is to make sure you are safe and comfortable before heading out on the water. If our team determines that your sailing experience is not sufficient for the day’s conditions, the rental may not be approved.

Hobie Cat rentals may be delayed, paused, rescheduled, or canceled due to wind, weather, rough water, lightning, or unsafe sailing conditions. Safety is always the top priority.
